The Chinese character for 'woman (女)' is represented by 3 strokes that depict a woman sitting with her knees to the left side. Simple and fundamental chinese characters like this one often are combined with other characters to represent different words. The character for 'woman', although can represent words such as 'good(好)', but is found frequently to represent words of weakness and belittlement. This piece was made to re-instill the character with elegance and strength, with sharpness and power, as if the sculpture were holding someone at knifepoint.
